High loading and monodispersed Pt nanoparticles on multiwalled carbon nanotubes for high performance proton exchange membrane fuel cells

چکیده
Composite electrodes consisting of Pt nanoparticles-supported on multiwalled carbon nanotubes grown directly on carbon paper (Pt/CNTs/carbon aper) have been synthesized by a new method using glacial acetic acid as a reducing agent. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show hat the Pt nanoparticles with high density and relative small in size (2–4 nm) were monodispersed on the surface of CNTs. X-ray photoelectron pectroscopy (XPS) analysis indicates that the glacial acetic acid acts as a reducing agent and has the capability of producing a high density of xygen-containing functional groups on the surface of CNTs that leads to high density and monodispersion of Pt nanoparticles. Compared with tandard Pt/C electrode, the Pt/CNT/carbon paper composite electrodes exhibit higher electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation reaction and igher single-cell performance in a H2/O2 fuel cell. 2007 Elsevier B.V. High Pt Loading on Polydopamine Functionalized Graphene as a High Performance Cathode Electrocatalyst for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells
Morphology and size of platinum nanoparticles are a crucial factor in improving their catalytic activity and stability. Here, we firstly report the synthesis of high loading Pt nanoparticles on polydopamine reduced Graphene. The loading concentration of Pt (nanoparticles) NPs on Graphene can be adjusted in the range of 60-70%.With the insertion of polydopamine between Graphene oxide sheets, sta...
متن کاملCarbon nanotube film by filtration as cathode catalyst support for proton-exchange membrane fuel cell.
A simple filtration method is developed to prepare a partially oriented superhydrophobic film of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that have been catalyzed with uniform small Pt nanoparticles (2.8 nm) at high metal loading (30 wt %). A proton-exchange membrane fuel cell with the oriented CNT film as the cathode achieves higher single-cell performance than those with carbon black and a disordered CNT-film...
متن کاملModified CNTs/Nafion composite: The role of sulfonate groups on the performance of prepared proton exchange methanol fuel cell’s membrane
A novel Nafion®-based nanocomposite membrane was synthesized to be applied as direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were coated with a layer of silica and then reacted by chlorosulfonic acid to produce sulfonate-functionalized silicon dioxide coated carbon nanotubes (CNT@SiO2-SO3H). The functionalized CNTs were then introduced to Nafion®, and subsequently, methanol permeab...
متن کاملIntroducing Pt/ZnO as a new non carbon substrate electro catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction at low temperature acidic fuel cells
Gas diffusion electrode was used for providing better conditions in fuel cell systems for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Because the slow kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction at the proton exchange membrane fuel cell cathode restricts fuel cell efficiency. To this end, researchers have used platinum-coated carbon. In the present study, due to the reduction of carbon corrosion, Zinc oxide...
متن کاملAn overview of organic/inorganic membranes based on sulfonated poly ether ether ketone for application in proton exchange membrane fuel cells
Nowadays, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are the most promising green energy conversion devices for portable and stationary applications. Traditionally, these devices were based onperfluoro-sulfonic acid electrolytes membranes, given the commercial name Nafion. Nafion is the mostused electrolyte membrane till now; because of its high electrochemical properties su...
